Short Biography

Md. Saifur Rahman was born on March 11 1963 in the district of Dinajpur, Bangladesh. He passed his B.Sc. Engineering in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) in 1987, and M.Sc. Engineering in EEE in 1989 from the Department of EEE, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET). In September 1989, he visited UK as a commonwealth scholar for pursuing Higher Studies and Research, and obtained his PhD in Digital Signal Processing from UMIST (University of Manchester) in December 1992. Later, as a Visiting Post-Doctoral Research Fellow, he worked for 2 years on “Intelligent Control of a Wind-Diesel Hybrid Power System using Neural Net and Fuzzy Logic Techniques” at the Centre for Renewable Energy and Sustainable Technologies (CRESTA) under the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of Curtin University, Perth, Australia. He has been teaching as a Faculty at the Department of EEE, BUET since June 1987. In the past, he served as a Hall Provost of Nazrul Islam Hall, as Head, Department of EEE and as Dean, Faculty of EEE at BUET. He is currently serving as a Professor in the same department and is conducting research in the fields of Digital Communication, Signal Processing, Intelligent Networks, Automation, Software Development, Embedded Systems Design, Energy Conversion Processes and Renewable Energy. He has published a significant number of papers in various journals and conference proceedings of national and international repute. He is an honorable member of Bangladesh Academy of Science, Bangladesh Electronic Society, Institute of Engineers Bangladesh (IEB) and Institution of Engineers (IEEE), USA.
