Dhaka, July 19, 2025 — The Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) hosted a dynamic dialogue uniting distinguished alumni, faculty members, and students to explore the department's progress, industry collaborations, and future potential in the global semiconductor arena.
The event was chaired by Professor Dr. A. B. M. Harun-Ur-Rashid, Head of the EEE Department, and moderated by Professor Dr. Muhammad Anisuzzaman Talukder. It featured insightful addresses by prominent alumni of the Department of EEE including Professor Dr. Muhammad Mustafa Hussain (Purdue University), Professor Dr. Sayeef Salahuddin (UC Berkeley), Dr. Anisul Haque Khan (Applied Materials), Dr. Sayeed Ahmed Badrudduza (NXP Semiconductors), and Dr. Mahbub Rashed (GlobalFoundries). The Honorable Vice Chancellor of BUET Professor Dr. Abu Borhan Mohammad Badruzzaman and EEE Faculty Dean Professor Dr. Md. Shafiqul Islam were also present, highlighting the institutional commitment to academic-industry synergy.
Among the distinguished alumni, Dr. Anisul Haque Khan shared lessons from his 30-year journey in the semiconductor industry, emphasizing materials engineering's role in advancing technology and the importance of practical experience. Dr. Badrudduza shared stories and lessons from his extensive carrier in the industry and emphasized the importance of pushing technological boundaries. He inspired the students to remain authentic in their career goals and underscored BUET's global reputation.
Dr. Mahbub Rashed outlined his efforts in establishing international design centers, including a key facility in Bangladesh. He expressed optimism about future tech initiatives such as Gallium Nitride RF development and local internship and training programs in collaboration with leading semiconductor companies.
Dr. Salahuddin advocated for a long-term national semiconductor roadmap and the establishment of university-based centers of excellence. He emphasized foundational knowledge and called for regular industry-academic dialogue, encouraging the diaspora's involvement in national development. Dr. Hussain stressed curiosity, efficiency, and passion, urging BUET graduates to lead with discipline and vision. He advised the students to be creative and deep thinkers, and being hard-workers above all.
The discussion spotlighted mentorship, alumni involvement, and industry-academic collaboration. The Honorable VC Professor Dr. Abu Borhan Mohammad Badruzzaman and EEE Department Head Professor Dr. A.B.M. Harun-Ur-Rashid emphasized the importance of networking to bridge the academia-industry gap, reaffirming BUET’s commitment to building a robust platform that will connect the students to its vast alumni network. The event underscored BUET EEE's pivotal role in shaping Bangladesh’s high-tech future and harnessing its alumni network to bridge global expertise with local innovation.
