S. Shahnawaz Ahmed (Senior Member, IEEE) earned his B.Sc.Eng.(1982, BUET), M.Sc. Eng. (1984, BUET) and PhD (1987, UMIST, UK). He joined the EEE Dept., BUET in 1983 and has been serving as a full Professor since 1996. He also served as a Professor in the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Universiti Teknlogi Malaysia (UTM) in the years 2000-2003 on leave from BUET. He served as the Head, EEE Dept., Dean, EEE Faculty, Director, Centre for Energy Studies, and Director, P&D in BUET, Director in PGCB and DPDC Boards, and Chairman of EEDC, BSTI. Currently he is a Director in DESCO Board. He teaches, supervises research and provides consultancy services in planning, real time operation and control of power system including smart grid, electricity market, nuclear power and renewable energy. He has authored or coauthored more than 60 publications in peer reviewed journals and conferences. He has supervised 12 Masters’ theses and 3 PhD theses. 1.“Laureate of the annual (2002) competition” by the Royal academy of Overseas Sciences, Belgium for the study “Photovoltaic Supplement to Diesel Generator Based Supply in an Off-grid Location of East Malaysia” that was adjudged as the best one among the studies received under the category of Technical Sciences from international researchers.
2.“BAS-M.O. Ghani Gold Medal 2003” by Bangladesh Academy of Sciences in recognition of contributions in the field of electrical and electronic engineering.
