The Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) is one of the largest departments of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET). The department has been successful to attract the right mix of high caliber and skilled professional faculty members and researchers. As of 01 March 2004, there are fifteen professors, five associate professors and seven assistant professors in this department. Most of theses faculty members have Ph.D. degree in various fields related to power, electronics, communication and computer.

The primary responsibility of the department is to provide world-class education in different branches of electrical and electronic engineering. In addition to this, the department provides its expert services in advisory, consultancy, research and testing to individuals, corporates, industries as well as various forms of national and international interests. The department also offers short courses to public and/or private organizations.



The EEE department is now providing consultation/advisory, research and testing services in the area of power, electronics, communication and computer. Some of them are listed below.

  • Evaluation of tender documents for the survey of the existing wireless equipment, systems, users including the service providers of various wireless based services

  • Heat cycle test of the indigenous H- and T- type connectors for use in the distribution lines of rural electrification board, Bangladesh
  • Evaluation of the technical proposals submitted by various international consortiums in response to the tender floated by Bangladesh Power Development Board for appointing consultant in its Haripur (near Dhaka) Power Station Extension Project through installing a 109 MW combined cycle power plant; 1997
  • Evaluation of the technical proposals submitted by various bidders in response to the tender floated by Jalalabad Gas Transmission & Distribution Systems Limited, Bangladesh for "Supply, Installation, Testing and Commissioning of a 1000 KVA Substation Together with BBT System" for its 10 storied head office building at Sylhet; 1998
  • Review, correction and updating of the technical specifications in the bid documents prepared by M/S. Worley International Ltd., New Zealand, for design, manufacture, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of a SCADA, an EMS and a communication backbone system covering 101 sites by  about 2250 km optical fibre cable  under a new National Load Despatch Centre Project  for the  grid  system to be owned by Power Grid Company of Bangladesh  Ltd. (PGCB); 1999
  • Aassessment of the power quality of utility supply to British American Tobacco Company (BATC) factory in Dhaka; April- May 2003
  • Evaluation of an international research report on cross-border power trading in South Asia prepared by “Nexant”, and a regional Course 1.7: “Strengthening Regional Energy Linkages in South Asia” organized by AED (Academy for Educational Development) in Dhaka   (19-23   July  2003)   under   SARI/E      (South Asia Regional Initiative in Energy) Program of USAID
  • Preparation of the bid document for supply, installation and commissioning of a 2 MW and a 1 MW diesel-generator to WASA, Dhaka, December 2003- January 2004
